“All aboard!” with JORD watches

When I started this crazy world of blogging, I had come across many posts of bloggers modelling on Instagram with these beautiful wooden watches and thought they were so cool. When I was contacted by JORD to collaborate with them on their summer 2017 campaign I immediately said yes.

My watch arrived and as soon as I opened the box, I was taken a back by the scent of the wood. You know how they say smell can trigger your emotions and bring back a flood of memories more than any other sense? Well when I took a whiff of the wooden case that the watch came in, it brought me back to a time when I was a just a young kid camping in the Canadian wilderness. So magical! The unique watch that I received from JORD is the Frankie 35 series in Zebrawood & Champagne you can find it here

I was invited by the lovely town of Stettler for an afternoon train excursion through the beautiful prairies in Alberta. I knew my JORD watch would make for a beautiful accessory for the day. I styled my cool watch with a couple of bracelets I bought from the farmers market in Bentley from a lady who specializes in pearl knotting. I wore a dress that I had purchased last winter from a little store in town, and thought it made for a complimentary look for my excursion.

We boarded the train on time courtesy of my JORD watch and got settled into our first class seats and awaited for our departure. We left the station at 2:30pm sharp and were off to our destination: Big Valley.

Choo Choo! The sound of the whistle from the steam train echoing across the prairies was so enthralling that it felt like I was transported back into time. The locomotive that we rode on was built in 1920 in Philadelphia. The engine weighed about 135,00 pounds and produces 1,000 horsepower!!

As we rode along the “ribbons of steel” past coulees, through grain fields and pastures, we even caught a glimpse of deer, antelope and other wildlife. The experience was so charming and even discovered countless facts about my province’s early days, until the unthinkable happened….the dreaded Reynolds Raiders held us all at gunpoint and tried robbing me of my beautiful JORD watch.

“Well hello pretty lady!” he screeched. “Now that is a fine-looking timepiece, you best be handing that wooden watch over to me” with a gun in hand and his face covered in a dirty handkerchief.

But to my amazement, Metis hero Gabriel Dumont was on board and protected me from the raiders and retrieved my watch.

Still shaken up from the robbery, we made it to our destination on time. We were greeted by the citizens from the little town and the mayor even came to welcome us to Big Valley. The town was beautifully manicured with rolling fields and old buildings still in working order. We spent some time sight-seeing before we headed up to eat. Good thing I had the time, otherwise we would have missed our dinner and departure for 6pm.

Our experience on the train was like no other, the sound of the whistle and seeing the stacks puff out with steam will never get old, in fact, it add another chapter to an already colourful past.
